Gran Torino

It is that good, and then some. Among Clint's best (Unforgiven, Perfect World, White Hunter/Black Heart). Funny, simple, almost an indie movie, great story, great dialogue.

Just saw it on Plastics recommendation...

It can best be described as Archie Bunker Meets the Karate Kid, on the set of King of the Hill.

Overall it was a pretty good movie, the story IMO was better than the movie.  But it was still a good movie, I'll reserve calling it great, after I mull it over, but my current leaning is to say simply that it was good.

I think squidv will appreciate it more than anyone based on one characteristic in the movie. It seems the writer attempted to out do each preceding racial epithet.

So much so, that it would be a fun party game to have each player write a racial slur against asians, put it in a hat and randomly pick from the hat.  Whenever the selected epithet is hurled, the player takes a drink.  At the end of the movie, the whole house should be drunk.

I might have exagerated a bit, although have to think it over. It has been such a bad year for movies that I probably upped its rating a bit based on the competition.

Maybe somewhere between good and great. It is definetly a differently paced style, and a very "old school" indie vibe to it, but with Clint Eastwood in it.

The archie bunker meets etc, etc is pretty good too.

Anyway, hope you didn't regret my recommendation... Cheers!

I give it a solid B.

Some of the acting was a little stilted and a tad stagey in a few parts.

But good.  One of the best films out there now.

I was genuinely moved. Very little cheap stuff and legitimately profound for 2008 (which is a low bar, I admit). It could have sucked.

Ok, just saw it.
It was great.
Awesome movie.
Yes, a lot of the Asian acting sucked.

Would you agree that it was better/deeper than Crash? That it was socially thoughtful in an unusual way for Hollywood?
